Which groundhog do you believe

It feels like a German Shepard. It is used to keep him dry. His inner layer of fur is soft, much like a bunny. It is used to keep him warm. He does shed is fur with the change in the seasons. How much does he weigh? Well, that depends on the time of the year. In the summer months he is much larger because he eats more. In the winter he is smaller. The range is anywhere between 17 pounds. What does he eat?

He gets a steady diet of veggies. His tastes change much as humans do. For a time he will really enjoy carrots then a month later he might now want them at all.

A few things that seem to remain consistent is kale, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, and bananas Does he eat fruit? He enjoys bananas and apples. Does Phil go to the Vet? Each year he gets a physical and check-up. Are you allowed to pet Phil? No, unfortunately, you cannot. He is a wild animal and the only ones that are permitted to touch him are his handlers. How sharp are his teeth? Well, he has two teeth on the top and two teeth on the bottle. Never seen him in the cold weather at all.

Phil does a shade poorer when you check his performance against actual weather outcomes since , when the accuracy of weather records is less in question, said Tim Roche, a meteorologist at Weather Underground. The groundhog's powers of prognostication are slightly better when he doesn't see his shadow, though. In fact, Punxsutawney Phil seems to have meteorology on his side this year, as Accuweather meteorologists are forecasting some stormy weather at least in the Northeast this month, Accuweather reported.

And how does that stand up against human forecasters? That's a 50 percent accuracy rate. In the early days of Christianity in Europe, clergy would distribute blessed candles to the faithful on February 2 in honor of Candlemas, a holiday celebrating the Virgin Mary's presentation of Jesus at the Temple in Jerusalem 40 days after his birth. Along the way, February 2 also became associated with weather prediction, perhaps due to its proximity to the pagan Celtic festival of Imbolc—also a time of meteorological superstition—which falls on February 1.

Tradition held that the weather on Candlemas was important: Clear skies meant an extended winter. Legend has it that the Romans also believed that conditions during the first days of February were good predictors of future weather, but the empire looked to hedgehogs for their forecasts. These two traditions melded in Germany, and the result was brought over to the United States by German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania.

Lacking hedgehogs, the German settlers substituted native groundhogs in the ritual, and Groundhog Day was born.
