But it's also nice too - everything I did on Britain's Got Talent was ideas that I had had for a long time and things that I wanted to do so it was nice to get that reassurance that, 'Okay, yeah, these ideas people seem to enjoy, so I'll do more of this type of thing'.
There definitely is that pressure to keep producing quality content and things that people like, but it was also nice to be shown on a large level that I'm on the right track. How do you come up with your illusions? What inspires you? In the grand scheme of things there's probably only a total of ten actual tricks - you can make something appear, you can make something disappear, you can read someone's mind.
There's only a handful of things like that and it's just about how do you do it in a different way? How do you put a spin on it? What I try to do is come up with an idea that I think's really cool without worrying about how it's going to be done until later. Does it bother you when people try to figure out how tricks are done?
Would you rather people just got swept up in things? But there's always going to be those people, just because saying, 'I'm a magician' inherently questions people's intelligence. It's like saying, 'I know something you don't know! But that's always going to be an element of it because of the nature of the craft. I try not to look on YouTube and look online and all of that. If it's something that I was happy with after the performance then I try to leave it at that and not dive into the dark corners of the internet to see what people are saying.
Is anyone coming along to your show that you're really excited about? I haven't even really thought about that, that's cool. But yeah it was nice enough that on Britain's Got Talent , the people that I really look up to in the art form reached out to me like, 'Hey, nicely done, I really like what you're doing'. I was like, 'Oh my God, that's crazy, I look up to these people'.
The fact that they're giving me support is amazing. If you came out on stage one night and looked out and saw Simon Cowell in the front row, would he put you off?
I would pretend that I was all cool and inside I'd panic. What is the worst thing that's gone wrong for you during performances? Things must get messed up. Especially doing it consistently, doing it all the time.
